A Northern Christian political group has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint a prominent Northern Christian as Director-General of the President’s 2027 re-election campaign, saying the move would deepen national inclusion and strengthen the ruling party’s electoral fortunes.

The appeal was made by the Secretary of the Northern Christian Progressive Group, Rev. Hayap Musa Danladi, in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday.

Danladi said the appointment would reaffirm the administration’s commitment to inclusiveness while giving Northern Christians a greater sense of belonging ahead of the 2027 general election.

He recalled that the APC, during the 2023 presidential election, appointed former Plateau State Governor, Solomon Lalong, to head Tinubu’s presidential campaign, describing the decision as one that contributed significantly to the party’s electoral victory.

“We appeal to President Bola Tinubu to once again consider appointing a Christian politician from Northern Nigeria, particularly one with the requisite experience and political reach, as Director-General of his 2027 presidential campaign,” Danladi said.

According to him, such an appointment would help dispel allegations of religious bias often levelled against the administration by its political opponents and further consolidate support for the President across the northern region.

He added that the inclusion of Northern Christians in the campaign’s leadership would promote political acceptance, mutual respect and national cohesion.

Danladi expressed confidence that Christian political leaders in the North would mobilise massive support for Tinubu’s re-election in appreciation of what he described as the administration’s achievements and ongoing reforms.

He urged Nigerians to reject divisive politics based on religion and ethnicity, insisting that sustainable national development could only be achieved through unity and collective responsibility.

“We must shun religious hatred and ethnic differences and work together to overcome the country’s challenges. Christians are committed to nation-building and believe in treating all Nigerians equally, irrespective of faith or ethnicity,” he said.

Also speaking, the Leader of the Northern Christians Youth, Zakaria Bitrus Gwasshi, commended President Tinubu for what he described as his administration’s commitment to fairness, national unity and inclusive governance.

Gwasshi said the President’s policies on security, economic development and peaceful coexistence were yielding positive results, particularly in states such as Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau and Benue, where recurring religious tensions had posed significant challenges in the past.

He maintained that the administration’s approach to addressing insecurity and fostering peaceful coexistence had been devoid of religious or ethnic bias.

He also expressed confidence that Tinubu’s leadership would continue to promote stability and national integration ahead of the 2027 elections.
