The Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has urged newly registered architects and architectural technologists to uphold ethical standards, professionalism and public safety in the discharge of their responsibilities.

A total of 526 architects, 12 registered architectural technologists and 25 architectural firms were formally admitted into the Council’s register during a recent virtual induction ceremony.

President of ARCON, Dipo Ajayi, congratulated the new registrants, describing their admission as both a professional milestone and a commitment to safeguarding the public through responsible practice.

He reminded the inductees that architects play a critical role in shaping safe, functional and sustainable built environments, charging them to uphold the values of integrity, competence and accountability throughout their careers.

Speaking on the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Architects and the Architectural Profession, Mohammed Saifudeen, underscored the importance of ethical practice in sustaining public confidence in the profession.

He urged the new professionals to place honesty, diligence and public safety at the centre of every project, stressing that ethical conduct remains fundamental to the credibility of the architectural profession.

Also speaking, Benedict Edechime, who reviewed the provisions of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) Act, highlighted the legal framework regulating architectural practice in the country.

He explained the obligations, rights and responsibilities of registered professionals under the Act and advised the new registrants to familiarise themselves with the regulatory requirements guiding professional practice.

The Registrar of ARCON, Mohammed Sule, presented the successful registrants to the council before administering the oath of professional practice, formally admitting them into the register of professionals authorised to practise architecture in Nigeria.

Sule reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to strengthening professional standards through effective regulation, continuous professional development and strict adherence to ethical principles.

According to him, the induction forms part of ARCON’s ongoing efforts to expand the pool of qualified professionals while promoting excellence, accountability and public safety in Nigeria’s built environment sector.
