The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has said its ongoing engagement with opposition parties and political groups across the country is gathering momentum, expressing confidence that the growing alliance would strengthen the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also commended the Ekiti State chapter of the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political stakeholders for reaffirming their support for Makinde, describing the development as further evidence of increasing cross-party backing for its presidential candidate.

APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, stated this in Abuja on Sunday while reacting to the decision of members of the PDP in Ekiti State to publicly reaffirm their support for Makinde and declare their intention to collaborate with the APM in the 2027 presidential election, while retaining their identity within the PDP.

According to Yusuf, the endorsement by the Ekiti PDP chapter reflects what he described as a growing national consensus around Makinde’s leadership credentials and governance record.

He maintained that the opposition party was intensifying efforts to build a broad-based coalition capable of presenting a formidable challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential election.

“We are working very hard and putting all our energy into this election because we are running to win. We have a good presidential candidate in Governor Seyi Makinde, who has already become the rallying point for Nigerians, especially the youth,” Yusuf said.

He argued that Makinde’s performance in Oyo State had positioned him as a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking a change in leadership.

According to him, the governor’s record in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, security, economic management and workers’ welfare continues to attract support from diverse political interests across the country.

“Since Engr. Seyi Makinde emerged as the APM presidential candidate, Nigerians from across the country are increasingly identifying with our party, with many expressing readiness to mobilise support for the APM and its candidates.

“That is why we have been galvanising cross-party support for our presidential candidate, and I can confirm that our alliance talks with like-minded political parties are yielding the desired results. We welcome the reaffirmation of support by the Ekiti chapter of the PDP and believe more expressions of solidarity will emerge in the coming days,” he added.

Yusuf said the APM was focused on expanding its grassroots structures and mobilising supporters nationwide ahead of the 2027 polls, insisting that the party was determined to prosecute what he described as one of the most issue-driven campaigns in the country’s democratic history.

He further attributed the growing support for the party to its commitment to democratic values, accountable leadership and transparent governance.
The party’s spokesman said the APM’s policy direction prioritises improved security, economic revival, sustainable development and citizens’ welfare, assuring Nigerians that these would form the cornerstone of its administration if elected into office in 2027.

He called on Nigerians who share the party’s vision for national renewal to join the APM, expressing optimism that the emerging alliances across party lines would reshape the political landscape ahead of the next general election.
