The two surveillance aircraft acquired by the Oyo State Government to strengthen intelligence gathering and aerial security operations have arrived in Ibadan.

 

The Commissioner for Information,Dotun Oyelade, announced the development in a statement on Tuesday, saying the arrival of the aircraft fulfilled the government’s earlier assurance that they would be delivered before the end of July.

 

Oyelade recalled that the state government announced the acquisition of the aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of efforts to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies in tackling emerging security challenges across the state.

According to the commissioner, Governor Seyi Makinde had on July 18, 2026, disclosed that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their deployment to Oyo State.

 

He noted that the government subsequently assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in the state before the end of July, a promise that has now been fulfilled.

 

The commissioner said the surveillance aircraft would enhance intelligence gathering and provide aerial support for security operations, particularly for the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, and other security agencies combating criminal activities across the state.

 

He added that Governor Makinde was at the airport to receive the aircraft on their arrival.

 

The acquisition forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to deploy technology-driven solutions to improve security and safeguard lives and property across Oyo State.
