Atiku challenges Tinubu to disclose details of ₦15.13bn SUV procurement

Former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President and AAfrican Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has challenged the Tinubu administration to immediately disclose full details of the ₦15.13 billion budgeted for the procurement of 39 Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) in the 2026 Federal Budget, insisting that Nigerians deserve transparency and accountability over the expenditure.

He urged the government to publish the make, model, year of manufacture, supplier, contract details and Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) of the vehicles to address growing public concerns.

The former Vice President said the budget allocation, which amounts to about ₦387 million per SUV according to an analysis by public accountability organisation Tracka, raises serious questions about value for money and responsible governance.

He maintained that if the vehicles have already been procured, the government should release all procurement documents and invoices, but if the process is still ongoing, Nigerians deserve an explanation for the delay. Atiku also questioned President Tinubu oversight in approving the budget, called for transparency over the ₦947.70 billion earmarked for 2,579 empowerment projects, and insisted that only full disclosure would dispel public suspicion and ensure accountability for the use of public funds.
