Odu’a Investment Company Limited (OICL) has mourned the death of its former General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Oloye Lekan Alabi, describing him as a visionary communications professional whose enduring legacy laid the foundation for the conglomerate’s corporate communications practice.

In a condolence message issued on behalf of the management and staff of the company, the Head of Branding and Communication, Mr. Victor Ayetoro, said the passing of the renowned public relations practitioner, author and cultural icon marked the end of an era.

Ayetoro described Alabi as the pioneer Public Affairs Manager of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, noting that he established the company’s public affairs and corporate communications architecture through professionalism, creativity and strategic insight.

According to him, the standards set by the late communications expert continue to guide and inspire the company’s branding and communications operations.

“Oloye Lekan Alabi was not only the pioneer Public Affairs Manager of Odu’a Investment Company Limited; he was a visionary who laid the foundation for the company’s corporate communication and public affairs practice. Through his professionalism, creativity and strategic insight, he established standards that continue to guide and inspire those of us privileged to serve in the communications department today,” Ayetoro said.

He recalled that Alabi was appointed the first Public Affairs Manager of Odu’a Investment Company Limited by the governments of the owner-states in 1989 in recognition of his professionalism and loyalty, adding that he voluntarily retired as General Manager, Corporate Affairs in 2006 after 17 years of meritorious service.

Ayetoro noted that the late public relations icon’s contributions provided a solid platform upon which the company’s current communications strategy continues to thrive.

He also described Alabi as a cultural icon, an accomplished author, a gifted storyteller and a passionate ambassador of Yoruba history and heritage whose intellect, eloquence and generosity of spirit earned him widespread admiration.

He also recalled the late Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland’s distinctive dress sense, saying his elegant appearance and preference for traditional attire reflected his deep appreciation for Yoruba culture and values.

“Although his physical presence will be greatly missed, his legacy will endure in the institution he helped shape, the profession he elevated, and the many lives he touched with wisdom and kindness,” Ayetoro added.

He prayed for the repose of Alabi’s soul and urged God to grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
