…as AMBO’s wife’s convoy escapes attack

No fewer than three suspected hoodlums have been apprehended in Ede township, when policemen raided a black spot in Ede, the country home of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The development came amid reported attack on the convoy of Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr (Mrs). Sekinat Oyebamiji, in Ede South Local Government Area of the state.
The attack was said to have occurred on Sunday night shortly after Mrs Oyebamiji concluded a political engagement in Alajue Ward 2, where she engaged residents and party supporters ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

She was accompanied by Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Alhaji Kayode Adereti, among other dignataries.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Osun State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Gotan, on Monday disclosed that three suspected hoodlums were rounded up when a notorious black spot was raided at Ede junction.

The suspects include Musa Taoreed, alias “Toyo”, Musa Muritala Akinde, and Muri Akinni. It could not be ascertained if the arrested suspects were involved in the attack on Oyebamiji’s wife.

Gotan, who restated that recent raids on criminal hideouts in the state were not politically motivated, contended that “they are purely professional policing operations designed to rid the state of criminal elements.”

The statement signed on behalf of Gotan by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Police Command reads: “As part of proactive measures to sustain law and order, the Osun State Police Command has intensified its continuous raids on identified criminal hideouts and black spots across the State.

“These intelligence-driven operations form part of the Command’s long-term crime prevention strategy aimed at protecting lives and property. prevention and detection of crimes.”

Describing the combing of black spots as a continuous exercise, which will be conducted in every part of the State, even after the election, the statement added: “In furtherance of this objective, on Saturday, Ist August, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m. operatives of the Command carried out a raid at an identified criminal black spot around Ede Junction, during which the following suspects were
arrested: Musa Taoreed, alias “Toyo”, Musa Muritala Akinde, and Muri Akinni.”

The suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine their level of involvement in criminal activities.

The Command, however, expressed concern over the growing tendency of some individuals and groups to politicize every lawful action of the Police, noting that such deliberate attempts to attach political undertones to legitimate security operations were misleading and capable of creating unnecessary tension in the state.
