Dettol Nigeria has commenced a nationwide consumer challenge aimed at encouraging Nigerians to adopt consistent personal hygiene practices.
The campaign, tagged “Dettol Original 12hrs Protection Challenge,” requires participants to create a 60-second video featuring a bar of Dettol Original Soap and share their personal experiences with the product on Instagram.
The company said 25 participants would receive prizes at the end of the competition, adding that entry details are available on Dettol Nigeria’s official Instagram page. The initiative is part of the brand’s broader “12 Hour Protective Shield” campaign, designed to promote regular hygiene practices among Nigerians.
Speaking on the campaign, Marketing Director, Reckitt West Africa, Boma Harrison, said Nigerians are exposed to germs daily while commuting, working, attending school and carrying out other routine activities.
“Every day, Nigerians are exposed to germs as they commute, work, attend school and carry out their daily activities. The ’12 Hour Protective Shield’ campaign is our way of reminding and encouraging people to make hygiene a consistent part of their everyday routines.
“We want Nigerians to go about their daily routines with confidence, knowing they are protected every step of the way,” Harrison said.
The campaign comes during the rainy season, when flooding and poor sanitation often increase exposure to contaminated water. Health authorities have consistently warned that floodwater may contain harmful microorganisms and other pollutants capable of spreading cholera, typhoid and other waterborne diseases.
The company noted that regular handwashing with soap, the use of safe water and proper sanitation remain essential measures for preventing the spread of infections.
The firm said the challenge would also showcase the experiences and memories that have connected Nigerian families with the brand over the years.
Participants are expected to share stories highlighting personal protection, family care, wellbeing and everyday hygiene through their submitted videos. According to the company, the campaign is intended to deepen public conversations on hygiene while encouraging Nigerians to make cleanliness a regular part of their daily lives.
