Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2027 election, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of Osun governorship poll.

Besides, Kwankwaso rejoiced with the winner and Governor Ademola Adeleke for his victory in the Saturday’s keenly contested poll in Osun state.

The leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, in a statement posted on his verified Facebook account on Sunday, described Adeleke opined that the outcome of the poll is a reaffirmation that Osun people owns the mandate.

He therefore commended the electorates in the state for exercising their democratic rights and affirming the power and mandate to make decisions of their choice.

“As a leader of the opposition and a committed democrat, I commend the people of Osun State for exercising their democratic rights and reaffirming the power of the people’s mandate,” Kwankwaso said.

“I congratulate my friend, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, on his victory in the 15 August 2026 Osun State Governorship Election.

“This victory is a reminder that when citizens remain committed to their civic responsibilities and make their voices heard, the people’s will must prevail.

“I also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the election and encourage all stakeholders to continue to uphold the principles of credible, peaceful and transparent elections”. Kwankwaso added.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Sunday declared Adeleke, candidate of the Accord Party AP winner of the Osun governorship election, having polled 511,067 votes to emerge victorious.

Adeleke defeated his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.

The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
