Former Edo Governor, Obaseki, Hails Adeleke’s Re-election

Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki

…Says Victory Affirms the people’s power

Former Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Saturday, August 15, 2026 governorship election, describing the outcome as a decisive affirmation of the will of the people.

Godwin Obaseki, in a congratulatory message made available to The Guardian, said the governor’s victory was significant not only because it secured him another four-year mandate, but also because it demonstrated the resilience of Nigeria’s democratic process in the face of attempts by desperate political actors to undermine the people’s choice.

According to the former governor, who identified himself as Researcher/Scholar at the School of African Studies, Boston University, United States of America, Adeleke’s re-election sends a strong message that Nigerians possess the power to defend their democratic choices when they stand together with courage, determination and a shared commitment to good governance.

He said the outcome should serve as a reminder to political leaders that public office is fundamentally a mandate from the people and must be exercised in their interest rather than for the benefit of privileged individuals seeking access to power.

“From my own political experience, a hard-fought election ultimately decided by the wishes and resolve of the people is a powerful reminder to the holder of a public mandate that his loyalty must, at all times, remain with the people and not with the interests of the privileged few who benefit from access to power,” Obaseki stated.

He further congratulated Adeleke on what he described as a well-deserved victory, expressing confidence that the governor would use his second term to deepen development across Osun State and improve the welfare of its citizens.

Obaseki urged the governor to remain committed to the aspirations of the people who entrusted him with the mandate, while wishing him a successful second tenure.

“I therefore heartily congratulate you, Your Excellency, on this well-deserved victory and wish you a highly successful second term in office. I am confident that you will continue to dedicate yourself to the development of Osun State and the advancement of the welfare and aspirations of its people,” he said.
