2027: Those Seeking “His Excellency” Must Behave Excellently, says Obi

NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC) Peter Obi, has called on politicians to avoid violence and conduct themselves responsibly ahead of the 2027 election.

Obi spoke after signing the first National Peace Accord for the 2027 presidential election with other presidential candidates.

He said candidates must ensure that their campaigns are peaceful and focused on issues affecting Nigerians.

“Leaders must eschew all forms of violent rhetoric and rein in their followers to do the same,” the former Governor of Anambra State said.

Obi said the 2027 election should focus on national unity, insecurity, poverty, the number of out-of-school children and the need to restore hope to Nigerians.

He urged political supporters to also remain peaceful and respect the electoral process.

“Our supporters must see that we have all committed to free, fair, and credible elections based on issues and devoid of rancour,” he said.

Obi said politicians seeking public office must also live up to the title they hope to receive.
“Those of us wishing to be addressed as ‘His Excellency’ must behave excellently.”

He said he welcomed the commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct free, fair and credible elections. He also urged security agencies to remain neutral during the election.

Obi called on his supporters to remain calm, determined and peaceful throughout the campaign, concluding his post with “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
