The Federal Executive Council has ordered a forensic investigation into government systems following the discovery of additional fake agencies allegedly operating within the public service.
The directive came after President Bola Tinubu briefed the Council on an interim report by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) concerning the discovery of a fake Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed that the investigation will extend to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and other government platforms.
According to Oyedele, the probe is expected to determine how the fictitious agencies secured official government codes and gained access to existing systems. The exercise will also identify loopholes in government processes and recommend stronger internal controls to prevent similar abuses.
The development raises fresh concerns over the integrity of government databases and payroll systems, as authorities move to uncover the full extent of the fake-agency network.
