Brentford outclass Tottenham Hotspur in 3-0 victory

Brentford

A positive start to the new season for Brentford, picking up their first victory of the season and outclassing Tottenham Hotspur. The Bees were the underdogs against a Spurs side that has spent £228M so far this summer, but as they did last season, Brentford sprung a surprise.

Spurs were outclassed, with Brentford having more hunger, desire and energy to win the game, playing without fear and confidently on the ball. Keane Lewis Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode clinically put their chances away, as the Bees executed a dominating performance.

Brentford pick up where they left off last season, continuing to prove doubters wrong. They were excellent across the pitch and outclassed Tottenham Hotspur in every department. Getting stuck in, winning the physical battles, getting the ball quickly up the pitch and ensuring defensive players are in the way to fend off any attacks from Spurs.

Brentford outclassed a team that had four new players in, one of whom cost around £100M, in the case of Sandro Tonali. The Bees had a clear plan in their build-up play, playing out patterns, one-two passes, a collective sync in attack.

They sniffed out any poor balls and passes from Spurs, of which there were plenty, and made Spurs look second best for a large part of the match. Brentford looked comfortable and ready to press up against Spurs, provide them a difficult challenge, and play without fear and clinically in attack, at the same time proving why they finished 9th last season.

Brentford have had stability; they have managed to keep many of the same players, such as Kevin Schade, Dango Outtara, and Igor Thiago, and have made small additions to their squad, such as Mamadou Sangare, who was key to their first goal.

It is a team with high ambitions and a point to prove, massively underestimated last season, and could be said to have been doubted in their ability to win the game against Spurs. But make no mistake: when teams are up against Brentford, especially at the Gtech Community Stadium, it will be a difficult task, facing a team that is well-structured, well-drilled, and ready for a fight.

They could have scored more goals in their game against Spurs, finishing with a 3.96 xG, and it shows that if Brentford have an opportunity for three points, they will pursue it to the best of their abilities, proving to be a nightmare for any other Premier League side.
