The Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos, was a beehive of activities at the weekend, as golfers battled for honours in the third edition of the India Independence Day Golf tournament.

The tournament, attended by over 140 players, saw Jimoh Ogundare emerge champion in the men’s category, while Wale Kalejaiye ended the event as runner-up, with Henry Gboneme getting the second runner-up award.

In the Ladies category, Linda Obieze won the prize, with Abiodun Hassan emerging the runner-up.
The inaugural edition was held on August 17, 2024.

According to the vice-captain of the club, Ejiro Ogomigo, the 2026 tournament was a huge success, and he praised the Indian community for their show of love for all participants.

“This is the third edition of the Indian Independence Cup. Every year there is improvement, and there is major improvement this year.

“This is one tournament a lot of members look forward to playing in. It is keenly contested, and very challenging.

“The highest points this year were 38 points compared to the previous year where we had about 40 points.”

Ogomigo, who represented the captain of the club at the closing ceremony of the event, said this year’s edition was so oversubscribed that the management committee struggled to find spaces for members.

“This year’s edition was oversubscribed, and we struggled to find spaces for members. I reckon that this will continue to be so because of the quality of the opposition.
