The Northern Christian Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA) has described the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, as an indispensable bridge-builder and a voice of peace whose leadership continues to unify Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and religious groups.

In a congratulatory statement yesterday to mark the Sultan’s 70th birthday, NOCRELA Secretary-General, Simon Dolly-KIF, noted that the Sultan’s seven decades were a remarkable milestone characterised by wisdom, unwavering service, and an enduring commitment to national stability.   ​

The cleric emphasised that the traditional ruler has distinguished himself not only as a custodian of culture but also as a unifying father-figure across the nation, “a voice for peace, and an important bridge-builder across religious, ethnic and cultural divides.”

Noting the traditional ruler’s continued advocacy for unity, tolerance and dialogue for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria’s diversity, NOCRELA prayed for the monarch’s continued wellbeing, divine protection and increased wisdom.

Also, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar prayed for more years, continued good health, strength and wisdom for the traditional/religious leader on his 70th birthday.

In a message on his X handle yesterday on behalf of his family, Atiku prayed that the Almighty Allah would continue to bless the Sultan with “robust health, enduring strength and greater wisdom” in his service to the Muslim faithful and the nation.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Matawalle, has said that the Sultan’s peace-building efforts and counsel have continued to support the federal government’s efforts in tackling insecurity across the country.

In a tribute in Sokoto yesterday, the minister described the monarch’s 70 years on earth as “seven decades of wisdom, humility, and service to humanity,” saying he had remained a father to all and a custodian of Nigeria’s moral and spiritual values.

The minister said the sultan’s reign had been characterised by efforts to strengthen bonds of faith, promote interfaith harmony and give voice to vulnerable members of society amid the country’s complex challenges.

According to him, the Sultan’s “commitment to justice and peaceful coexistence continues to inspire leaders and communities far beyond our borders,” just like his interventions in national security, education and humanitarian affairs.

Urging Nigerians to emulate the Sultan’s virtues of tolerance, humility and service in pursuit of peace and national cohesion, Matawalle prayed for continued good health, long life and divine guidance for the monarch as he continues to lead the Muslim community in peace and progress.
