President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has presented a brand-new Hyundai vehicle to the Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, during a working visit to the institution.

Gwarzo visited the university on Friday to congratulate Bayero on her appointment as Vice Chancellor and recognise her previous contribution to the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), where she served as a Visiting Professor.

Bayero received Gwarzo alongside senior officials of the university during the visit.

Gwarzo said his decision to visit was primarily to congratulate the new Vice Chancellor and acknowledge the role she played during her time at MAAUN.

He also commended her appointment, saying her selection reflected confidence in her competence and ability to lead the university.

“I’m here to pay a historic visit to a woman who has given her best to MAAUN. This is the time that you need our support as part of our appreciation for your service,” he said.

Gwarzo also expressed appreciation to the governor responsible for Bayero’s appointment, saying he had taken note of developments at the university since she assumed office.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the Governor for appointing you. He has identified competence, and since your assumption of office, I have realised and heard about the achievements you have so far recorded,” he said.

The Hyundai was presented to Bayero as a personal gift in recognition of her service to MAAUN. Gwarzo stressed that it was separate from a Hilux vehicle previously donated to Northwest University.

“I’m gifting you this vehicle as a personal gift, not to the university, in appreciation of your service to MAAUN. We gifted the Hilux vehicle to the university, and this brand-new Hyundai is for you personally,” he said.

He wished the Vice Chancellor well in her new position and prayed for divine guidance as she carries out her responsibilities.

The latest gesture is not Gwarzo’s first support for Northwest University.

During the tenure of Bayero’s predecessor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, Gwarzo donated a vehicle to assist with the transportation of students of the university.

He subsequently presented a Hilux vehicle to the institution following a visit by Bayero after her appointment as Vice Chancellor.

Bayero thanked Gwarzo for the latest gesture and described him as a private university proprietor and educationist who had contributed to the development of higher education in Nigeria.

She said his contribution to private university education extended beyond financial investment to include the sharing of experience and expertise in university administration.

“You are a model for private university owners. You have set a path by establishing one of the fastest-growing private universities in the country,” Bayero said.

She also acknowledged his willingness to support individuals and institutions within the education sector.

“I have realised your passion for giving out not only your wealth but also your expertise in the management of universities. We thank you and pray to Almighty God to increase you in everything good,” she added.

The presentation adds to a series of engagements between Gwarzo and Northwest University, including previous donations aimed at supporting the institution.

Gwarzo is the President of MAAUN Group of Universities, while Bayero previously served as a Visiting Professor at MAAUN before taking up her current position at Northwest University.
