Isiaka pledges constituency project for neglected ward

…Says interventions cover 21 wards

The member representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has said his constituency interventions have reached all 21 wards, with plans to provide a physical project in the only ward yet to benefit before the end of 2027.

Isiaka made this known yesterday at a stakeholders’ engagement and public presentation of The Living Borders, a 150-page development agenda for the constituency, held at Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro, Ogun State.

The lawmaker, who used the occasion to give an account of his four-year stewardship, said his interventions had focused on key sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, skills acquisition, empowerment and employment.

Among the projects he listed were the construction of a mini-stadium and a police station in Oja-Odan, provision of boreholes in six communities, including Ayetoro, Iboro and Imasayi, and installation of 1,200 solar-powered streetlights across the constituency.

Other interventions include the construction of a Computer-Based Test centre, which he said was 95 per cent complete, building of classroom blocks, distribution of 1,200 school bags, and renovation and equipping of primary healthcare centres.

Isiaka said the distribution of projects across the constituency reflected his commitment to equitable representation, adding that the outstanding ward would receive a physical project before the end of 2027.

He commended constituents for their support and confidence in his leadership.

“I want to thank you for allowing us to serve, for standing by us, believing in us and for all your prayers that have brought us this far,” he said.

Explaining the rationale behind The Living Borders, the lawmaker said the document was designed as a development blueprint to identify the constituency’s economic potential, address immediate challenges and provide a framework for sustainable growth.

He described his approach as
“development-focused representation”, arguing that effective representation required strategic planning and a clear understanding of the community’s long-term needs and prospects.

“We know that we cannot do development without a plan. We need a strong development plan, development agenda or development guide. What we have done is to look at all the advantages and benefits available to us and bring them together as a guide for everyone .”

He said development should address present needs without undermining the opportunities available to future generations.

“Developing is when you have the best of the day without compromising what the future will be like. That is exactly what we are trying to do and what we are aiming for,” he added.

Isiaka also identified the constituency’s proximity to the Republic of Benin as an economic advantage that could be harnessed through deliberate government intervention.

He called for the establishment of a free trade zone to unlock the commercial potential of border communities, stimulate economic activities and create employment opportunities for residents.

The lawmaker also advocated the establishment of tertiary institutions in Imeko-Afon and Yewa North, saying improved access to higher education would boost human capital development and expand opportunities for young people.

The engagement attracted former and serving lawmakers, traditional rulers, Baales, All Progressives Congress chieftains, religious leaders, artisans, traders and youths, among other stakeholders.
On the 2027 general election, Isiaka expressed confidence in his re-election prospects and urged constituents to support the APC and its candidates.

He specifically called for support for President Bola Tinubu, Ogun State governorship hopeful, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, and other candidates of the party.

He said continued support for the APC would help consolidate ongoing reforms and sustain development initiatives in the constituency.
