The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has said that Governor Peter Mbah deserves a second term, stressing that he had deepened development and peace of the state.

Chairman of the party in the state, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, stated that the governor’s infrastructural projects that spans the three Senatorial zones has placed Enugu among top rated states in Nigeria.

Chukwunweike said during the flag off of the party’s campaign for the September 26 local government elections in that state that residents  should support  second term bid of the governor.

The campaign rallies, held at the headquarters of the three councils of Udenu, Igbo Eze North and Igbo Eze south, attracted party leaders, traditional rulers, market and trade union leaders, women, youths and other supporters, as the party formally commenced mobilisation for the polls.

 Chukwunweike,  who presented the party’s flags to the chairmanship and councillorship candidates  urged the electorate to vote massively for them.

He said the massive support recorded for the APC in the three LGAs during the June 20 Enugu North Senatorial District by-election gave the party confidence ahead of the council polls.

“I’m glad about the massive support to us by the people of Udenu, Igbo Eze North and Igbo Eze South. We’re here to thank you for demonstrating that APC is our party during the June 20 Enugu North by-election, which was a litmus test,” he said.

He explained that the party was confident the people would again turn out fully to vote its candidates, stressing that the APC had performed to the point where it did not need excessive campaigning to win votes.

“Our party has performed to the point that we don’t need to campaign too much to get people’s votes. We’re just using this local government election to once again test the microphone for the 2027 general elections,” Chukwunweike said.

Chukwunweike urged the electorate to support Governor Peter Mbah’s second-term bid, saying the governor deserved another term because of his performance and not merely because incumbents traditionally seek two terms. He also urged voters to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

The Senator  representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Ikeje Asogwa recalled the massive support he received from the three LGAs during the June 20 by-election and urged the people to replicate the feat in the council polls.

He appealed to them to support  Innocent Ezeoha for Udenu, Chris Onyekachi Simon for Igbo Eze North and  Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze for Igbo Eze South, promising solid representation in Abuja.

The member representing Udenu/Ignore North Federal Constituency Dennis Agbo, and  member, representing  Nsukka/Igbo Eze South Federal Constituency, Chidi Obeta urged the electorate to support the APC candidates, citing the development record of Governor Mbah and the performance of the party’s candidates.

Agbo specifically said the people would demonstrate their appreciation for the governor with their votes, declaring, “The taste of the pudding is the eating,” while Obeta commended Ukwueze’s performance in Igbo Eze South, saying his return ticket was a reward for his achievements.

APC Southeast Zonal Woman Leader, Dr. Oby Aji, expressed confidence in victory, saying the party’s results would be known shortly after voting on election day and that the electorate had already made up its mind.

At Udenu, the council chairman, Aka Eze Aka, said the LGA was united behind the APC and would work to deliver more than 90 per cent votes for the party. He said the people had no alternative to Tinubu, Mbah and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Enyinnaya Ogbonna, said Udenu had benefited from the development projects of the Mbah administration, describing the huge turnout at the rally as evidence of the people’s support for the governor and the APC.

The three chairmanship candidates — Innocent Ezeoha of Udenu, Chris Onyekachi Simon of Igbo Eze North and Ferdinand Ukwueze of Igbo Eze South — said they had already mobilised across their respective LGAs and were confident of victory.

Speaking collectively through Ezeoha, the candidates said they had engaged the electorate and explained why the APC should be supported, adding that the large crowds at the rallies showed the party was gaining acceptance at the grassroots.

“We have already watered the ground to ensure we win this election. We did that by explaining to the people why it should be APC. That’s why you saw this crowd here today. We’re no longer going to find it difficult winning our people’s votes,” Ezeoha said.

Businessman, Chukwulota Ofo,  said the council election would provide an opportunity for the APC to demonstrate its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that he was fully committed to the party.
