A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Fisayo Ajisafe, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that the decision was hinged on the strides of President Bola Tinubu and the crisis rocking the opposition.

Ajisafe, who served as a key grassroots mobiliser and opposition figure in Ifedore Federal Constituency, disclosed his decision on Thursday.

The defection was formalised at Ajisafe’s political ward in Ikota, Ifedore Local Council Area of the state, where he was received by the immediate past state chairman of the APC, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, alongside other party leaders who described the development as timely and strategic for the ruling party’s ambitions in the state.

IAjisafe cited the development agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and what he described as the “lingering crisis” within the PDP that had constrained his ability to effectively serve his constituents.

“I have decided to join the moving train and continue to get involved in the Renewed Hope agenda of our President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Ajisafe said.

The PDP chieftain expressed confidence that the APC would perform strongly in the 2027 elections, pointing to the growing strength of the ruling party across Ondo State as a key factor that influenced his political realignment.

He further urged members of opposition parties to join the APC, describing it as a progressive platform capable of moving the country forward and addressing the pressing issue of insecurity.

Ajisafe also commended the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, citing ongoing road projects, including the Orita-obele-Ijare-Ikota road, as evidence of the APC government’s development efforts.

“The APC government is doing very well, and I appreciate what it is doing for our people,” he stated.

He said his political experience and grassroots support would be deployed to strengthen the APC and mobilise support for the party, adding that his defection would have political implications for the PDP in his federal constituency, where he claimed to have played a substantial role in opposition politics.

Receiving the defector at the ward level, Adetimehin described Ajisafe as a respected grassroots mobiliser and progressive-minded leader who would make meaningful contributions to the growth and unity of the APC.

The former state chairman, who was accompanied by other party leaders, assured Ajisafe of equal opportunities and full integration into the party structure.

Adetimehin urged party members to remain committed to Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing confidence that Ondo State would deliver more than one million votes for the president in the 2027 election.

He added that the APC remained committed to strengthening its unity and welcoming progressives willing to contribute to the party’s success and the development of the state.
