Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has asked northern leaders to take responsibility for the insecurity ravaging the region and seek lasting solutions, rather than blaming President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during the Adamawa All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ engagement in Yola yesterday, Fintiri decried what he called northerners’ habitual complaints whenever a southerner is president of Nigeria.

He recalled how former President Goodluck Jonathan was accused of creating the conditions for Boko Haram terrorist activities in the region, adding, “but honestly, we are all aware that Boko Haram members are our people, not people from Southern Nigeria.”

Stating that Tinubu had not cheated Northern Nigeria since he assumed office, Fintiri accused some of the region’s leaders of failing to provide good governance to address the challenges confronting their people. He urged them to stop shifting blame for the problems confronting the region.

On Nigeria’s economic situation, Fintiri said the Tinubu administration had made significant progress in improving the nation’s economy. He also criticised the practice of street begging, saying that “Islam discourages begging, yet some people continue to send children from poor families to the streets to solicit alms.”

Meanwhile, troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma (JTF NW OPFY), have rescued six kidnap victims following credible intelligence on suspected terrorists in Mehinua Village in Wasagu Local Council Area of Kebbi State on Tuesday.

A statement by the Media Information Officer, JTF NW OPFY, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed that, acting on the intelligence, troops were swiftly mobilised to the scene, where they engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee and abandon their victims.

According to the statement, the rescued victims and the terrorists’ vehicle were subsequently handed over to the relevant community authorities for further necessary action.
