Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Gbenga Daniel, and former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, have called for stronger security, infrastructure and economic reforms to unlock Nigeria’s economic potential and secure its future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

They spoke, yesterday, during the seventh Freedom Online yearly lecture held in Lagos, themed “2027 Elections: Economy, Security and Nigeria’s Future.”

Sanwo-Olu said the economy and security should not be treated as separate issues, noting that poverty could fuel insecurity, while insecurity could undermine the economic activity needed to address poverty.

Daniel, in his remarks, said Nigeria could not achieve sustainable economic growth without security, while lasting security would remain difficult without a strong economy.

Mohammed said security was a precondition for economic growth, while economic inclusion was essential for political stability.

“No business thrives in an atmosphere of uncertainty, and no foreign or local investor deploys capital where safety cannot be guaranteed. In turn, political stability depends on economic inclusion,” he said.

The former minister said the economic and security challenges confronting the country required consistency, patience, institutional strengthening and national cooperation.
