The Forum of Governing Council Members in Nigeria Tertiary Institutions (FOGOCOM) has commenced nationwide mobilisation for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

The forum also stepped up preparations for its national conference scheduled for September 29 at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chairman, Media, Publicity and ICT Sub-Committee of the FOGOCOM-TSG National Conference Planning Committee, Benedict Aguele, on Friday.

The statement said the forum renewed its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Tinubu administration during a strategic engagement and nationwide briefing by its leadership.

The National Chairman of FOGOCOM, Chief Akin-Thomas Babajide, commended members for their loyalty and contributions to what he described as efforts towards good governance, educational development and nation-building.

Babajide said the administration had laid a foundation for economic growth, education reforms, infrastructure development and improved governance.

He urged members to promote the achievements of the APC-led administration within their communities, institutions and professional networks, while encouraging greater participation in governance.

FOGOCOM said it remained committed to strengthening Nigeria’s higher education system and supporting policies aimed at institutional development.

The forum said its forthcoming conference would bring together representatives from government, academia, industry, development agencies and the private sector to discuss tertiary education, governance, leadership, institutional effectiveness and national development.

The statement also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Education for policies and programmes aimed at reforming the education sector and improving collaboration among stakeholders in tertiary institutions.

As part of preparations for the conference, the Steering Committee and Finance Committee are expected to hold a physical meeting in Abuja on Monday at 2:00 p.m.

According to FOGOCOM, the meeting will consider issues relating to conference logistics, funding, partnerships and programme coordination. Committee chairmen have been directed to attend personally or nominate representatives where necessary.

Members of the forum also pledged to mobilise resources, networks and partnerships towards the successful hosting of the conference.

Beyond the education-focused discussions, FOGOCOM said the conference would provide an opportunity to consolidate support for the APC and build momentum for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The forum said it would expand its grassroots mobilisation efforts, promote political awareness and communicate what it described as the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda across communities.

The forum said its mobilisation was aimed at supporting national unity, educational development and sustainable growth, while strengthening its contribution to political and national discourse.

It urged members to maintain transparency, accountability, discipline and professionalism in their activities, stressing the need for ethical conduct in their engagement with communities and institutions.
