The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports claiming that it does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party, in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the reports as false and intended to undermine the party’s growing political presence.

The NDC said it has nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to hold in 2027.

The party also released the names of 12 candidates it said are contesting in states allegedly mentioned in the reports.

They include Senator Kabiru Marafa in Zamfara, retired Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim in Borno, Hon. John Odey in Cross River, Babanta Michael Okon in Akwa Ibom and Nwofe Boniface in Ebonyi.

Others are Yakubu Solomon Ndam in Plateau, Ilu-Barde Aliyu in Katsina, Umar Usman Besse in Kebbi, Jonga Yahaya Gabakau in Yobe, Dutse Aminu Sani in Jigawa, Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani in Taraba and Abdu Sidi Bomi in Niger State.

The party said it has structures and supporters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, adding that it is preparing for the 2027 elections as a national political movement.

The NDC also urged journalists, media organisations, bloggers and content creators to verify political claims before publishing them.

It said the party would remain focused on issue-based politics and its proposed agenda on security, employment and accountability.

The NDC called on Nigerians to support its political movement ahead of the 2027 elections.

The claims about the party’s nominations are those of the NDC and should be independently verified against official electoral records.
