INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, for bye-elections across five constituencies in four states.

The commission, in a statement, said the elections would be conducted in one federal and four state constituencies.

The federal constituency where the bye-election will be held is Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State.

Other constituencies are Disina and Sakwa in Bauchi State; Udu in Delta State; and Dawakin Kudu in Kano State.

INEC said the elections would take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, although it did not provide further details on the reasons for the vacancies in the affected constituencies in the announcement.

The bye-elections will provide eligible voters in the affected constituencies with an opportunity to elect new representatives to fill the vacant legislative seats.

The commission’s announcement comes as political parties and prospective candidates prepare for the electoral contests.

INEC has in recent months continued preparations for several off-cycle and bye-elections, including the updating of electoral processes and engagement with political parties and other stakeholders.
