The General Manager of the Borno State Radio and Television Corporation (BRTV), Alhaji Ali Muhammad Shuwa, has tasked journalists in the country to uphold ethical standards and professionalism in reporting political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shuwa made this known in an interview with The Guardian on Tuesday in Maiduguri to mark his one year in office as the head of the state’s media broadcast station.

He said the society places heavy responsibility on journalists and media practitioners to protect democracy.

“Journalists have a sacred responsibility to the society, particularly during elections.

“We must remain objective, fair and balanced, and ensure that our reports are guided by facts, professional ethics, media law and the Electoral Act,” he said.

He added that ethical reporting of electoral process will remarkably help in strengthening people’s confidence in the forthcoming 2027 general polls.

Speaking on his first year in office as the General Manager, he said the corporation recorded significant feat in restoring, strengthening and expanding its broadcasting services within a short period.

He disclosed that the management led by him revived and strengthened the signal and reach of the two broadcast stations for effective information dissemination especially to rural communities.

The GM explained that the corporation expanded its reach through modern digital and satellite platforms, including NIGCOMSAT satellite services, Free TV applications and Radio Garden.

“BRTV can now be accessed on 95.3 FM, while the television service has also been made available on additional platforms, allowing viewers and listeners within and outside Nigeria to remain connected to the corporation’s programmes and services,” he stated..

He added that the corporation’s three sub-stations; Karteri FM in Damasak, Nilefa FM in Monguno and Harmony FM in Biu, were revived to ensure quick delivery of information on government policies and programme.

Shuwa, therefore commended the state governor, Babagana Zulum for his commitment to the growth and development of the stations, and media sector in the state.
