Authorities of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, on Monday paraded three suspects, including a father and his son, for allegedly stealing electrical cables at Agbona village, around Iwo town.

The suspects namely Taliatu Olunlade, male (60 yrs), Wasiu Olunlade, (25 years; and Ganiyu Ayomide, male, 22 years.

Briefing journalists while parading the suspects, the Commandant of the NSCDC, Osun State Command, Toma Mathew Enya, explained that the trio were apprehended on September 4, 2026, over alleged theft and illegal sale of electrical cables, saying the offence constitutes threats to critical national assets and infrastructure.

He stated, “Preliminary investigation revealed that, around November 2025, road construction activities in Agbona, Iwo, necessitated the temporary removal of electrical cables in the area. This was reportedly a decision reached by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in collaboration with the community leaders of Agbona Village.

“Following the removal, the electrical cables were properly packaged and kept at a location close to the residence of one of the villagers, identified as Mr. Taliatu Olunlade, for safekeeping.”

Enya, however, added that after some months, the cables reportedly began to disappear gradually, prompting his command to launch investigation, which culminated in the arrest of the three suspects.

“Discreet Investigation further revealed that the suspects allegedly removed the cables bit by bit and sold them to one Aminu, a metal scrap dealer/scavenger popularly known as “Bollar,” who is currently at large.

“The suspects  confessed to having sold the stolen electrical cables to Aminu, a bollar  on two separate occasions for a total sum of ₦100,000, “Enya remarked.

He also hinted that investigation was already ongoing, while efforts were being intensified to apprehend the said Aminu and bring him to justice.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged to court in accordance with the law.
