Adeola threatens to sue over claims about his Ekiti origin

Senator Solomon Adeola

Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, has threatened legal action against two political figures over allegations concerning his state of origin.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, gave Hon. Abayomi Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area, and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 24 hours to substantiate claims made about his background or face libel proceedings.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, chief Kayode Odunaro, the senator said Hunye and Marcus-Bello had made the allegations during interviews on Channels Television programmes.

According to the media adviser, the two accused Adeola of being an indigene of Ekiti State, among other claims, but failed to provide evidence to support their assertions.

Adeola described the allegations as false and defamatory, saying he would seek legal redress if the claims were not substantiated.
“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” Adeola was quoted as saying.

He added: “One falsely claimed on TV that I am from Ekiti, and when asked where exactly in Ekiti went blank and could not provide an answer. The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she were part of the undertakers at the burial, all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood.

“Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits.”

The senator’s media aide said the allegation about Adeola’s origin had previously been used during campaigns against his bid to represent Ogun West in the Senate.
Odunaro further claimed that the allegation had resurfaced ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election as Adeola seeks the APC nomination and campaigns for the state’s top political office.

Adeola won the Ogun West senatorial seat at the 2023 National Assembly election.

The allegations concerning his origin could not be independently verified from the statement, and the claims made by Hunye and Marcus-Bello were not included in the material provided.
