The crisis rocking the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened, with factional governorship aspirant Hon. Abayomi Hunye challenging Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola’s claim to Ogun West.

Hunye, who insisted on Saturday that he remained in the governorship race, unveiled Otunba Abdulfalil Abayomi Odunowo as his running mate, despite the party’s recognition of Adeola as its candidate.
He also questioned Adeola’s claim to Ogun West, challenging the senator to produce his original family house in the zone as proof of his roots.

“I want to tell everybody in Ogun State that it is a big lie that I have stepped down. We are still in the race. I am in court,” Hunye said.
He added: “We are challenging the result of the election that announced Olamilekan, known as Yayi, as the candidate of the APC. Next Thursday, we will also be in court, and I believe that at the end of the day, victory will be ours.”

On his choice of running mate, Hunye said: “We are here to unveil my deputy governor. As of today, all the Assembly candidates have been picked, and they have also picked their deputy governor. If I refuse to pick my deputy governor, I will be compelled to adopt theirs.”
Hunye then questioned Adeola’s indigeneity, saying he was not convinced that the senator was from Yewa without further proof.
“There is nothing they can use to beg me. I, as a person, am not convinced that Senator Olamilekan Adeola is from Yewa unless they prove it to me,” he said.

He added: “I am from Tube. You don’t get to Tube and start asking for me. When you get to Tube, you see my aunty, you will see my uncle, you will see my nephew. You can see my roots there. Where is his family house?”
Hunye argued that if Ogun West was to produce the next governor, the candidate should be an indigene with a deep understanding of the area’s challenges.

“If Yewa were to be the governor, we must ensure that he is a true indigene, an original Yewa man who knows our challenges and problems so that we will be able to solve them,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State APC has reaffirmed Adeola as its officially recognised governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The development has opened a fresh front in the dispute, with Hunye expressing confidence that he would emerge victorious in the court case challenging the outcome of the party’s governorship primary.
