After a morale-boosting 3-0 defeat of Chad in their opening game at the ongoing African Volleyball Championship in Tunisia, Team Nigeria says that it is fully focused on today’s game against Algeria.

Nigeria, yesterday, defeated Chad 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-6), a victory which team coach Ryan Masajedi, a Japanese, said has given them the lift they need to face all their opponents.

Masajedi said that yesterday’s win was a huge step forward, insisting that the mission is to secure the competition’s sole ticket for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, as well as qualification to the 2027 FIVB World Championship.

The soft-spoken tactician was all smiles, as the Zone 3 champions dominated the opening set 25-17 and the same scoreline in the second set; they won 25-16 to seal their first victory of the championship.

“I am excited that the players played according to the instructions given to them; it shows our training programme worked out. They executed the game plan.

“We had no issues beating Chad in our first match. We’ll now shift focus to our next match against Algeria, and we will not be carried away by the victory. We have to top our group to have a favourable pairing in the next round,” said Masajedi.
