President of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has congratulated Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on her 66th birthday, praising her contributions to women empowerment and national unity.

Mrs Tinubu, a former senator who represented Lagos Central from 2011 to 2023, marks her 66th birthday on Monday, September 21, 2026.

In a congratulatory message, Gwarzo described the occasion as an opportunity to recognise the First Lady’s public service and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of women and other Nigerians.

He said Tinubu’s approach to public service and advocacy for peaceful coexistence had earned her recognition from institutions and individuals across the country.

“On behalf of MAAUN Group of Universities, I wish to extend our warm greetings to the First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, as she celebrates her 66th birthday,” Gwarzo said.

He described the First Lady as an example of humility and simplicity and commended what he described as her commitment to promoting peace and unity.

Gwarzo also recalled MAAUN’s decision to name its School of Law building in Kano after Tinubu.

The university announced the naming of the building in August 2023, saying the decision was taken in recognition of what it described as the First Lady’s commitment to peace, unity and public service.

Tinubu subsequently commissioned the building at the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Kano on February 12, 2024.

During that ceremony, the First Lady announced a ₦50 million endowment fund for the university’s best graduating law students.

Gwarzo said the decision to honour her with the building reflected the university’s appreciation of her contributions to society.

“As an epitome of humility and simplicity, the First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, deserves to be celebrated on this occasion and for achieving this remarkable milestone,” he said.

He also commended Tinubu for her involvement in initiatives focused on women and social development, describing her public service as worthy of recognition.

The First Lady previously served three terms in the Senate, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District between 2011 and 2023. She became First Lady of Nigeria following the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.

Gwarzo wished her continued good health and many more years of service.

He also prayed for the First Lady and expressed hope that she would continue to support efforts aimed at advancing Nigeria’s development.

The MAAUN Group president said the institution would continue to recognise individuals whose work contributes to education, peace and societal development.
