The Federal Government, through the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS), is set to train and empower 200 youths in Oyo State with practical and marketable skills aimed at improving their livelihood opportunities.
Abiola Arogundade, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (TVEE), disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Arogundade, the training programme will run from September 28 to October 9 and will equip participants with skills in graphics and artificial intelligence (AI), makeup and fashion design.
She said the initiative would subsequently be replicated across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to expand access to technical and vocational skills, tools and sustainable livelihood opportunities for more young Nigerians.
Arogundade said the beneficiaries would not only receive training but would also be provided with complete starter kits relevant to their areas of specialisation to enable them to put their newly acquired skills to practical use.
She explained that participants in graphics and AI would receive laptops, while those trained in makeup would be provided with fully equipped makeup kits.
According to her, beneficiaries in fashion design would receive sewing machines and other starter kits to support them after the training.
She added that the programme was designed to bridge the gap between skills acquisition and access to the tools required for young people to establish or expand income-generating activities.
Arogundade said the graduation ceremony for the trainees would be held on October 9.
She further disclosed that 500 tablets would be distributed to young Nigerians during the graduation ceremony as part of the Federal Government’s digital empowerment drive.
“The initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to equipping young Nigerians with practical skills, tools and opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods,” she said.
The programme is part of the government’s broader efforts under the NPRGS to expand access to skills development and economic opportunities for young Nigerians.
