The Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL) has commenced construction of a commercial complex and multi-level car park at Kado Market, Abuja, featuring 140 shops and 108 parking spaces as part of efforts to improve commercial activities and urban infrastructure in the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Abuja, the Company’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Amb. Maureen Tamuno, said the project would provide new opportunities for traders and entrepreneurs while addressing parking and traffic challenges around the market.
The project comprises three blocks of commercial structures built on two suspended floors, with 140 shops of varying sizes, as well as a purpose-built multi-level car park on five suspended floors with capacity for 108 vehicles.
Tamuno said the development was designed not merely to provide infrastructure but to create economic value, improve the organisation of commercial activities and enhance the daily experience of traders, residents and visitors to the area.
She said the project aligned with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its emphasis on infrastructure, enterprise and private-sector participation as drivers of sustainable economic growth.
She applauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his sustained focus on infrastructure development and urban renewal across the Territory, saying his administration’s commitment to making infrastructure work and ensuring visible development had continued to reshape Abuja.
According to her, the project also supports the ongoing infrastructure and urban transformation agenda of the FCT administration.
The AICL boss also used the occasion to urge Nigerians to vote for President Bola Tinubu as well as well candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country’s capital at the forthcoming general elections.
She said AICL’s role was to unlock investment opportunities, build productive partnerships and support projects capable of creating lasting value for the FCT.
Amb. Tamuno described the Kado project as an example of what could be achieved when public-sector vision was matched with private-sector capacity, commending the development partner, Westwood Universal Link Limited, for its commitment to the project.
She charged the contractor to ensure that quality and safety were not compromised, urging that the project be delivered professionally and within the agreed timeline.
“Beyond the concrete and steel, we expect to see businesses grow, jobs created, commerce strengthened and a more organised urban environment emerge. That is the true measure of development,” she said.
Tamuno also appealed to traders, residents and other stakeholders in Kado to cooperate with the project team throughout the construction period.
She said the groundbreaking marked the beginning of a development expected to become another visible symbol of progress, partnership and renewed hope in the FCT.
Earlier, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Halibiz Flexible & Smart Homes Limited, Adamu Aliyu, said the project was expected to be completed within the next 12 weeks, assuring stakeholders that the company would work to meet the agreed timeline.
Aliyu said the company was committed to delivering quality infrastructure that would meet the needs of traders, residents and other users of the facility, adding that construction would be carried out in line with the required standards and specifications.
In their separate messages, the MD/CEO, Westwood Universal Link Limited, Dantsoho Saeed; Group CEO, Assetium Properties Limited, Monsurat Ayoola as well as owner of Sahad Stores, Ibrahim Mijinyawa, lauded Amb. Tamuno, for her leadership and commitment to driving investment, infrastructure development and public-private partnerships in the Federal Capital Territory.
They described the Kado Market Commercial Complex and Multi-level Car Park Project as a significant investment that would boost commercial activities, improve the business environment and create opportunities for traders and other residents of the area, while commending AICL for facilitating the partnership.
