ICSAN urges professionals to prioritise physical health

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has urged professionals to make regular exercise a habit, stressing that maintaining physical health is essential to sustaining productivity and effectively discharging their responsibilities.

The institute’s immediate past President, Funmi Ekundayo, made the call during ICSAN’s annual Walk-for-Life in Lagos, organised ahead of its national conference and as part of activities marking its 60th anniversary.

Ekundayo said ICSAN m mbers worked across different sectors of the economy and needed to maintain their physical and cardiovascular health.

She said the walk was organised to remind professionals that maintaining physical health was essential to sustaining productivity and effectively discharging their responsibilities.

Ekundayo said ICSAN had, over the past 60 years, contributed to the development of corporate governance in Nigeria.
ICSAN Vice President, Francis Olawale, said the initiative was designed to encourage professionals whose work often kept them seated through successive meetings and office activities to make exercise a habit.

Olawale, who is also chairman of the institute’s conference and ICSAN@60 committee, said the Walk-for-Life had become part of the institute’s culture over the past decade.

“ICSAN is not just all about the boardroom,” he said, noting that many of its members moved from one board meeting to another and from one office meeting to another, resulting in sedentary lifestyles.

He said the annual exercise was intended to encourage executives to take greater responsibility for their health, adding that the 2026 edition was particularly significant because of the institute’s 60th anniversary.

The institute’s Honorary Treasurer, Onyekachi Uko, said the walk aimed to promote members’ health while also raising awareness ahead of the annual conference and anniversary dinner scheduled for October 9 and 10.
