Ezeji hails Godwin Obaje on 100 NPFL goals milestone

Nigeria Premier Football League veteran Victor Ezejii has hailed Enugu Rangers striker Godwin Obaje for reaching 100 league goals.

Obaje achieved the landmark feat as he scored the only goal in Rangers’ 1-0 win away at Warri Wolves on Wednesday, September 30, as he joins the select few players to have 100+ goals in the league.

Ezeji in his remarks, said records are meant to be broken, adding that records are not meant to last forever. The former Sharks striker also said he looks forward to his record being broken in the league.

“No records are there forever; records are meant to be broken.”

“I stopped playing 11 years ago and would love to see my record broken. I wish Obaje well and hope he breaks it, and if not, that’s also fine.”

Victor Ezeji’s comments reflect his desire to see the current generation of players achieve new heights in the league, thereby projecting its image in good light.

Since reaching 100 goals, Godwin Obaje has taken his tally to 101 after getting on the score sheet in Rangers’ latest win in the league.

Obaje was among the goalscorers for the Flying Antelopes as they claim victory over Abia Warriors in the Oriental Derby on Sunday.

The striker scored the opener as Enugu Rangers brush Abia Warriors aside 3-1 at the Awka City Stadium to remain at top of the league with 16 points after seven matches.

Meanwhile, Godwin Obaje will have to met Rabiu Alli’s goals tally in the league before usurping Victor Ezeji who is the all-time top scorer in the league with 148 goals.

Legendary Kano Pillars midfielder, Rabiu Alli who is still active has 124 goals 398 matches in the league.

Godwin Obaje currently has two goals from five matches this season and will hope to close the gap on the Kano Pillars midfielder at the end of the season.
