The BO Foundation for Inclusive Media (BOFIM) under, ‘Her Voice, Her Vote’ project has stressed the need for inclusive access to information, especially for Persons with Disabilities during election. This was stated during the launch of a report titled, ‘Access to information and participation in Osun State’s 2026 governorship election’
The conversation focused on digital inclusion of women with disabilities in the electoral process.
The event featured presentations from key participants including Sussan Ihuoma from the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, who argued that political participation is a right for all citizens including women and persons with disabilities.
The Executive Director of BOFIM, Blessing Oladunjoye, presented findings from their digital-based engagement with 30 women with disabilities across different disability clusters in Osun State.
The team shared videos created by women with disabilities demanding accessible electoral systems, discussed their methodology of providing information in accessible formats including plain text, graphics, audio messages, and videos, and highlighted both successes and ongoing challenges such as physical accessibility issues and lack of sign language interpretation at polling stations.
The meeting also includes a presentation on digital accessibility challenges and recommendations for improving electoral information access for persons with disabilities, with participants discussing plans for advocacy engagement with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders to drive implementation of the report’s recommendations ahead of the 2027 general election.
