The Egg Sellers and Distributors Association of Nigeria (ESDAN) has launched a digital platform, EggHome App, to improve access to fresh eggs, address recurring egg glut and make the product more affordable to consumers.

The association’s National President, Olaide Graham, who disclosed this yesterday, said the platform was designed to connect egg producers, distributors, sellers and consumers, reduce inefficiencies in the distribution chain and improve access to markets.

Graham said the initiative would also address challenges such as unfair pricing practices and exploitation within the egg value chain.

According to her, egg glut remains a recurring challenge in Nigeria’s poultry industry, leaving producers struggling to sell their products while unsold eggs lose freshness.

“ESDAN recognises that inefficiencies in marketing, distribution and access to consumers can contribute to this challenge,” she said.

Graham explained that connecting suppliers directly with buyers through a digital platform could reduce distribution bottlenecks, minimise avoidable losses and create better opportunities for producers and sellers.

She said the initiative was expected to help producers reach more customers while enabling distributors to operate more efficiently and consumers to buy fresh eggs at affordable prices.

The ESDAN president spoke on the sidelines of activities marking the 30th anniversary of World Egg Day, celebrated yearly on the second Friday in October to promote awareness of the nutritional benefits of eggs.

The 2026 celebration had the theme, “Protein That Powers and Protects.” Graham said the launch of EggHome underscored the association’s commitment to making eggs more accessible to households, schools and communities, particularly as an affordable source of protein.

She said the celebration also featured activities to educate students on the nutritional benefits of eggs and their importance in supporting growth, development and healthy living.

According to her, the students’ participation was aimed at encouraging healthier food choices and promoting awareness of entrepreneurship, innovation and the poultry industry’s contribution to national development.
