The Young Voices Empowerment Initiative for Youth and Children (YVEI) has concluded its 2026 Pad a Girl Child Campaign in Itomu community, Epe, Lagos State, to promote menstrual health education and access to sustainable menstrual-care products.
The campaign, held on Saturday, October 10, reached girls with menstrual health education and sustainable menstrual-care products, while engaging boys, parents, caregivers and other community members in discussions on menstrual health, hygiene and support.
A total of 203 girls were reached in the campaign. About 20 boys were also reached
The sensitisation sessions covered the menstrual cycle, personal hygiene, menstrual-care options, the use and maintenance of reusable pads, and responsible disposal practices.
Participants were also introduced to sustainable alternatives, including Sana reusable pads and Girllified biodegradable menstrual products, to help them make informed decisions about menstrual care.
The sessions were facilitated by Everything Period, represented by its Founder and Executive Director, Winnie Ameh, who provided practical guidance and an opportunity for participants to ask questions about their bodies and menstrual health.
According to YVEI, the campaign aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on quality education, gender equality, and peace, justice and strong institutions.
Speaking on the initiative, YVEI Founder, Kareen Ajatiton, said the campaign was designed to improve both knowledge and access to menstrual-care products.
“The Pad a Girl Child Campaign is about more than distributing pads. We want girls to understand their bodies, know their options, practise proper menstrual hygiene and feel confident managing their periods with dignity,” she said.
Kareen added that engaging boys, parents, caregivers and the wider community was essential to creating a supportive environment for girls.
“We also believe the girl child should not have to navigate these conversations alone. By engaging boys, parents, caregivers and the wider community, we are creating a more informed, respectful and supportive environment for girls to thrive,” she said.
YVEI acknowledged the partnership of Total View Media, United States; Amazing 3D Goals, United Kingdom; Light & Mel Property, Lagos; Sana; Girllified; and Everything Period in delivering the campaign.
The organisation said its work focuses on empowering children and young people in underserved communities through education, gender equality advocacy, digital inclusion, leadership development and community-based child protection programmes.
Through initiatives such as the Pad a Girl Child Campaign, YVEI seeks to equip young people with the knowledge, confidence and opportunities needed to improve their wellbeing and future prospects.
