Sudan: Army repels RSF-SPLM-N attack in Blue Nile, deals heavy blow on attackers

Sudan Army

The Sudanese Armed Forces‘ 4th Infantry Division said its troops and allied forces had repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their SPLM-N allies in Blue Nile State last weekend, dealing the attackers a heavy blow in personnel and equipment.

In a statement made available Monday by the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Nigeria cited the division’s command saying the assault, which targeted areas of Al-Roseires locality in the South-Eastern part of the state, was met with a firm response by army units and allied forces.

Fighting had centred on the Al-Kadalo area, some 50 to 60 kilometres from the Roseires Dam, and the army said its operations inflicted heavy losses on the attackers, including those in Minza and Bashkarkad areas.

The attack was accompanied by shelling, and suicide drone strikes on civilian and government sites. Blue Nile Governor, Ahmed al-Omda Badi, said RSF drones aimed at his residence in Ed Damazin were intercepted by the army’s air defences. Local reports said three security personnel at the residence were lightly injured.

The militia’s assault has again exposed civilians to danger with thousands of people displaced by the fighting, 483 families and more than 2,415 people registered in five shelters in Al-Roseires, where relief workers also recorded two children separated from their families.

Wad al-Mahi locality continues to host an estimated 64,000 people displaced from the Geissan area.

Meanwhile, state officials have urged residents not to be drawn into unverified security rumours that could trigger fresh waves of displacement.

The Blue Nile fighting follows the army’s gains in North Kordofan, where it announced the capture of Al-Mazroub last Friday, an area army source described as the RSF’s largest stronghold in the state.

The army’s Special Forces Spokesman described that advancement as a major turning point in the fighting in Kordofan.

The Sudanese government has repeatedly stated that the RSF’s operations depend on foreign weapons, drones and fighters, and that restoring state authority and protecting civilians across the entire country remains the army’s central task.
