Mbah lifts 9pm vehicular restriction in Enugu

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah

Relief may have come the way of residents and transporters in Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Saturday extended the state’s 9:00 p.m. movement restriction to 10:00 p.m.

He also directed an end to the issuance of tickets to commercial tricycle operators under the previous enforcement arrangement.

The state government had since 2023 maintained a 6am to 9pm restriction in the movement of tricycle and commercial bus operations as a measure to curb kidnappings and violent crimes in the state.

Although the state government had attempted and improved security, the movement restriction had remained in force making night life a no go area in the state.

But at the One Million Man March organised in his honour by Tricycle Riders Union in Enugu State, Mbah announced a one hours extension in movement from 9pm to 10pm.

Under the new directive, motorists and other road users would have an additional hour to move around and conduct their legitimate businesses before the revised curfew takes effect.

Mbah also directed that commercial tricycle, popularly known as keke, riders should no longer be issued tickets under the previous enforcement arrangement.

The development is expected to bring relief to tricycle operators and other road users who have been affected by the earlier restrictions and ticketing system.

The announcement comes amid efforts to address concerns surrounding the movement of residents and the activities of commercial transport operators across the state.

Residents and transport operators are expected to take note of the announced changes as the state adjusts its movement restrictions and enforcement arrangements.
