Sokoto State Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir will represent Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the fourth edition of the Africa-Europe Sports Awards in Paris, France, on Monday, October 19.
The event is expected to bring together sports personalities, athletes, administrators and other prominent figures to celebrate sporting excellence and strengthen ties between Africa and Europe through sports.

Gobir’s participation on behalf of Aliyu is expected to highlight the role of sports diplomacy, international cooperation and cultural exchange in fostering relationships between African communities and their European counterparts.

Among the personalities expected to receive awards are Yeo Moriba, mother of French football star Paul Pogba; former French international handball player Mariama Signaté; and Moroccan football referee Bouchra Karboubi.

Their recognition reflects the diverse contributions of individuals to sports, from supporting athletes’ development and excelling in professional competition to breaking barriers in sports officiating.

Karboubi has earned international recognition for her achievements as a football referee, emerging as one of the prominent female officials on the African and international football stages.

The Africa-Europe Sports Awards provides a platform to recognise outstanding sporting achievements, celebrate African talent and honour individuals whose influence extends beyond the playing field.

The participation of the Sokoto State delegation is also expected to provide an opportunity to showcase the state’s commitment to sports development and explore potential partnerships to support young athletes, grassroots sports and international sporting engagement.

The ceremony is organised by OJB Media Network, led by international sports journalist Babatunde Ojora. It is scheduled to take place at Maison des Arts in the Paris region.
The fourth edition is expected to feature an evening of awards, networking and celebration of individuals contributing to the growth and development of sports across Africa and Europe.
