The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Delta State for the 2027 election, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye has mourned the death of Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing him as a respected elder brother whose contributions to the state’s development would remain significant.
In a condolence statement, Iyovwaye said Uduaghan’s death was a painful loss, recalling the personal relationship they shared, which was built on mutual respect over the years.
Uduaghan, a medical doctor, served as Secretary to the Delta State Government before becoming governor in 2007. He held office until 2015, during which his administration pursued the Delta Beyond Oil initiative aimed at diversifying the state’s economy.
Beyond his political career, Iyovwaye described the late governor as a committed public servant and a proud son of Delta State who devoted a significant part of his life to serving the people.
“ To me, he was more than a former governor. He was an elder brother whom I held in high regard. Our relationship went beyond political affiliations, and I will always cherish the moments we shared, our conversations and the mutual respect that existed between us,” the statement said.
While acknowledging that history would continue to assess Uduaghan’s years in public office, Iyovwaye said his contributions to Delta State would remain an important part of the state’s development.
The condolence message extended sympathy to Uduaghan’s wife, children, the Uduaghan family, the Itsekiri nation, and the people of Delta State.
Iyovwaye prayed that God would give the family the strength to bear the loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.
