Beautiful quotes of a lifetime

By Segun Durowaiye

Sir: This very topic is of great interest to me because of the unrepentant nature of human beings regarding the perpetration of evil and its twin brothers.

Historically, we have read in spiritual literatures of how sin and evil came to being during the time of Adam and Eve.

Milton, one of the classical writers in the days of yore even wrote, “Paradise Lost” to further educate us on this very important topic.

Human beings will never learn.

The endemic evil, deeply entrenched in a man’s heart was also highlighted in one of the classic works of the legendary Williams Shakespeare when Brutus betrayed Julius Caesar, Emperor of the Roman empire then.

“Et tu Brut,” was all Julius Caesar could say when Brutus stabbed him in the stomach and he fell down.

Meaning, “And you too Brutus…?!!!”

The stab in the heart by a close friend like Brutus was the most devastating and painful act to the great Julius Caesar, because of the glaring betrayal of trust.

The whole gamut of world’s literature is filled with millions of works telling and warning us of the consequences and terrible repercussions of doing evil in all ramifications.

Efusetan Aniwura’s life, in Yoruba history was also a typical example of a very wicked tyrant and powerful leader who sowed evil and paid dearly for her wicked ways. Aniwura was the Iyalode Ilu Ibadan, a tyrannical and heartless leader.

“Esan kii gbe!” meaning, “You can never escape from Karma and retributive justice.” It is also written in the Holy Scripture that, “The heart of man is desperately wicked.” When you do bad things and relish in atrocious acts, you would not go unpunished and scot-free!

There is a quote again in the Holy Scripture, “Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.”

“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” This literally means, “Sow good seeds always so as to reap good things in return.”

Steer clear of betrayal, backstabbing and other wicked acts to hurt fellow human beings, so your mind can be at peace with the Almighty God, and to enjoy His awesome blessings. Think about it.
