Abia South deserves better representation, says NDC senatorial candidate

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)

Dr Kasarachi Enyinna, the senatorial candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Abia South Senatorial District, has criticised what he described as two decades of poor representation in the district, promising to prioritise infrastructure, healthcare, youth development and economic opportunities if elected.

Enyinna said the people of Abia South deserved better representation and urged voters to assess the performance of their current representatives and consider alternatives ahead of the elections.

He argued that younger Nigerians who had come of age must begin to demand accountability from elected officials, particularly on their legislative responsibilities, constituency projects and contributions to policies that improve people’s lives.

“Abia South has been very poorly represented in terms of the dividends of democracy. If you travel throughout Abia South, you will see how poorly our representatives have performed in the last 20 years,” he said.

According to him, effective representation goes beyond occupying a legislative seat to include providing oversight, proposing policies that benefit constituents and ensuring that government projects address the needs of the people.

He questioned the state of healthcare infrastructure in the district, the impact of roads attracted by its representatives and the policies introduced to improve living conditions over the years.

“What policies has the senator introduced in the last 20 years? What has he really delivered to the people of Abia South? Those are the real questions we should be asking,” he said.

The candidate said his ambition was driven by a desire to serve the people, give the district a stronger voice at the federal level and restore hope through practical interventions.

Enyinna also identified Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State as a major priority, promising to pursue policies that would support businesses, ease tax burdens and create a more favourable environment for economic growth.

He said he would work with the Federal Government to explore measures that would help businesses in Aba and other parts of the district overcome challenges affecting their operations.

The candidate further pledged to promote access to financing for small businesses by helping them connect with development finance institutions (DFIs) and international funding organisations.

According to him, many businesses have been unable to access such funding opportunities, limiting their capacity to expand, create jobs and contribute to economic development.

On youth empowerment, Enyinna said he would advocate the establishment of digital centres where young people could acquire relevant skills to compete in an increasingly technology-driven economy.

He also promised to attract investment to Aba and the oil-producing communities in Abia South, which he said had suffered years of neglect and inadequate infrastructure.

He maintained that the district needed more attention in areas such as roads, healthcare, economic empowerment and youth development, adding that he would work with both state and federal authorities to advance these priorities.

Enyinna said his goal was to ensure that residents could point to tangible improvements at the end of a four-year tenure.

“I will do more to ensure that every indigene of Abia South will have something to point to after four years,” he said.

He also expressed his ambition to connect Aba’s commercial strength and the ingenuity of its people to international markets, arguing that stronger global links could attract investment and create more opportunities for local businesses.

As campaigning gathers momentum, Enyinna urged voters to reflect on the district’s development over the past two decades and decide whether the existing pattern of representation should continue.

“I believe I am here to give myself to the service of others, to give the people a better voice in the Federal Government and to bring greater hope to Abia South,” he said.

He called on residents to support his candidacy on the platform of the NDC, expressing optimism that a new approach to representation could help build a more prosperous Abia South.
