Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has condemned the reported killing of residents in Binnari community, Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of the state, calling on security agencies to urgently arrest those responsible for the attack.
The governor’s reaction followed an attack by armed men in the early hours of Friday, which reportedly left several residents dead and heightened tension in the community.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, Kefas described the killings as unfortunate and urged security agencies to take immediate measures to restore calm and protect lives and property.
He stressed that efforts must be intensified to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, irrespective of their status or position, insisting that all those involved must be held accountable under the law.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity and restoring lasting peace in Karim-Lamido and other communities affected by violence across the state.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to facilitate the safe return of displaced persons to their communities and rebuild confidence among residents affected by previous crises.
As part of the peacebuilding measures, Kefas recently approved N1 billion for the Taraba State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management to address the aftermath of previous crises and support initiatives aimed at restoring peace in Karim-Lamido.
The governor urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore normalcy and ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
