The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched its campaign in Owerri, Imo State, ahead of the 2027 general elections, promising improved governance, security and grassroots development.
Former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, said he aligned with the party’s candidates because of their integrity and commitment to people-centred leadership.
Speaking at the campaign launch on Saturday, Ihedioha said his administration pursued good governance with honesty and integrity, adding that the ADC candidates shared his political philosophy.
He regretted that projects initiated under his administration, including the construction of stadia in 27 local government areas and the expansion of the Adapalm plantation, were abandoned by successive administrations.
Ihedioha said electing ADC candidates would guarantee administrative autonomy for local government councils, allowing them to undertake emergency road repairs in rural communities.
The party’s National Chairman, David Mark, represented by the National Vice Chairman, Bon Unachukwu, said the turnout at the event demonstrated the party’s growing acceptance.
Mark urged voters to support all ADC candidates, saying the party would work to address hardship and insecurity in Imo State and Nigeria.
“When you vote ADC, you vote for prosperity, progress, and success,” he said.
The Owerri Zonal Chairman of the party, Ben Mere, called on supporters to take the party’s message to wards and villages across the state.
Mere said the party’s structure in the zone was united and prepared to contest all elective positions in the forthcoming elections.
The ADC candidate for Imo East Senatorial District, Uchenna Ofoegbu, said his priorities included tackling poverty and providing effective legislative representation.
He said youth and women empowerment, rural road rehabilitation and improved community healthcare would feature prominently in his campaign promises.
Ofoegbu also said the party would introduce strategies to protect votes and ensure that the electorate’s choices were respected.
The party’s candidate for Owerri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Okey Amadi, promised accountable leadership, improved healthcare and stronger security if elected.
Amadi said he would also pursue effective legislative advocacy for his constituency and present periodic performance reports to the people.
Other candidates at the event included William Merem for Owerri North, Chidiebere Mere for Owerri Municipal and Francis Ugorji for Owerri West, alongside the party’s state chairman, James Okoroma.
The event featured the presentation of the party’s flag to its candidates for the state and National Assembly elections.
