Gun Duel: Oyo Police Rescue 15-Year-Old, Neutralise Suspected Kidnapper

Oyo state police command

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a 15-year-old boy abducted in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state and neutralised a suspected kidnapper during a gun duel, while a manhunt continues for other fleeing members of the gang.

The victim, identified as Sumaila Muhammadu, was reportedly abducted from the Onidundun area of Akinyele on October 18, 2026.

The police said credible intelligence received on October 22 indicated that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom for the victim’s release.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Section, in collaboration with the Oyo Zone Vigilante Group, to launch a rescue operation.

The operation took place at about 9.30 p.m. at the Pipeline area of the Ajagba axis along the Awe–Iwo Road, where the operatives reportedly came under fire from the suspected kidnappers.

The ensuing gun duel led to the rescue of the teenager, while one suspected kidnapper was neutralised. Other members of the gang reportedly fled with gunshot wounds.
