Kwankwaso pledges jobs, security, education as Obi misses Plateau meet

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to prioritise security, education, agriculture and job creation if elected into government in the 2027 general election.

Pledging over the weekend on behalf of the presidential candidate, Peter Obi, during a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Jos, Plateau State, the vice-presidential candidate of the party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, described the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as a platform for national unity.

Kwankwaso disclosed that Obi explained to him earlier on Friday that circumstances beyond his control had prevented him from travelling to Plateau State, but asked him to assure residents of their commitment to the state, even as both candidates would return for another engagement.

Assuring that they would harmonise their visions for Nigeria ahead of the election, Kwankwaso listed insecurity, poverty, hunger, unemployment and the decline of industries among Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.

According to him, political leaders have been indifferent to the recurring killings across the country, whether arising from banditry, insurgency or communal violence, with people waking up each day and 20 to 100 people, or even more, being killed like chickens, and nobody cares.

Among the programmes, Kwankwaso said that an Obi-led administration would expand access to education, particularly in northern Nigeria, as well as focus on reviving agriculture, supporting farmers and creating jobs for young Nigerians.

To achieve these, he urged Plateau residents to support the Obi–Kwankwaso ticket and the NDC and ensure that their votes were protected.

Meanwhile, the NDC candidates for all the positions in the state, including the governorship candidate, Jonathan Akuns, were present at the event.
