INEC bows to pressure, uploads preliminary voter register online

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

…sets December 15 deadline for final list

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election to its online platform following concerns by Nigerians and other stakeholders over the accessibility of the register.

The commission said the online publication was intended to complement the physical display of the preliminary register conducted nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026, and enable more Nigerians to inspect their particulars.

Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the register was now accessible through https://display.inecnigeria.org.

The commission said it had taken note of concerns expressed by Nigerians and stakeholders about the need to make the register available online in addition to the physical display already conducted at registration areas.

The physical display was carried out in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, to allow registered voters to check their details and submit claims and objections as provided by law.

INEC said it was still processing claims and objections arising from the exercise ahead of the certification and publication of the final register of voters on December 15, 2026.
