Tinubu urged to settle unpaid subsidy-removal relief for pensioners

President-General of the Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEPPPAN), Elder Benjamin Maisamari Amako

The Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEPPPAN) has urged President Bola Tinubu to direct the payment of three months’ N25,000 subsidy-removal palliatives for vulnerable citizens.

The association called for urgent action on pension harmonisation, the payment of outstanding entitlements and improved access to healthcare for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

The demands were contained in a communiqué issued after FEPPPAN’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja and signed by its President-General, Elder Benjamin Maisamari Amako, and General Secretary, Franklin Erinle.

On pension harmonisation, the association expressed concern over the implementation of the exercise, which it said took effect in January 2026.

It called for the release of the government circular guiding the policy to clarify the position of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) and explain how the exercise would affect pensioners.

The association insisted that harmonisation should result in increased monthly pension benefits for all pensioners, urging the relevant authorities to explain the terms, implementation process and implications of the policy.

FEPPPAN also appealed to self-funding organisations, including aviation agencies, to harmonise the pensions of their retirees.

It said regular consultations between PTAD and pensioners’ representatives would help address complaints, improve communication and provide clarity on policies affecting retirees.

The association called for a structured engagement mechanism supported by regular meetings, proper documentation of complaints, tracking of unresolved cases and timely communication on progress.

It urged PTAD to strengthen consultations on pension payments, outstanding entitlements, pension records, healthcare enrolment and other administrative issues affecting its members.

FEPPPAN called for clear information on the requirements for accessing pension-related services and procedures for resolving complaints, particularly for elderly, sick and physically incapacitated retirees who might need additional assistance.

On the planned relaunch of the ‘I Am Alive’ pension verification platform, the association urged PTAD to put safeguards in place to ensure that no eligible pensioner was excluded.

It stressed the need for effective communication and support arrangements to enable pensioners to complete the verification process without unnecessary difficulties.

FEPPPAN, however, commended Tinubu for the timely payment of monthly pensions to DBS pensioners.

It urged the President to sustain the regular payment of monthly entitlements and ensure that retirees continued to receive their benefits promptly and without interruption.
