The Evidence Group, a youth-led support movement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has called on residents to support President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in the 2027 general elections.
The group made the call on Monday in Calabar South during the grand finale of its statewide local government tour, where party loyalists urged voters to mobilise grassroots support for APC candidates.
The Initiator of the Group Edem Bassey, urged youths to take an active role in determining the political future of the state by participating in the electoral process and mobilising voters.
“Our youths must take responsibility for determining the future of our state. We must come out in large numbers to vote and mobilise others to support candidates who will advance our collective interests,” he said.
Bassey also called for unity among residents, saying grassroots mobilisation would be critical to the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
The member representing Calabar South Constituency I in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Effiong Ekarika, urged residents to support Otu for a second term, citing what he described as the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, infrastructure and human capital development.
He said residents should assess the governor’s performance and support his administration to consolidate its achievements, while urging voters to scrutinise the claims of opposition politicians before making their choices.
The Calabar South Coordinator of the group, Mary Patrick, reaffirmed its commitment to the Back to South political agenda, pledging sustained grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
She urged supporters to vote for APC candidates across all levels, saying the movement would work to translate its support into votes at the polls.
“We are calling on our supporters to vote for the APC from top to bottom. We must work together, mobilise our communities, and ensure that our support translates into votes on election day,” she said.
The state Commissioner for Information, Ekpenyong Cobham, also canvassed support for Otu, insisting that the governor had delivered on his promises.
Cobham warned residents against what he described as attempts by opposition candidates to confuse voters, urging them not to experiment with their votes.
“Don’t experiment with your votes. Other people contesting are mere pretenders,” he said.
The tour was part of the group’s grassroots mobilisation efforts to strengthen APC support and encourage youth participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
